GammaVision Training Course (Core and Advanced)

GammaVision Gamma Spectroscopy Training
GammaVision Core follows an agenda which integrates lecture and student exercises. Topics include:

  • Basic Physics for Gamma Ray Spectroscopy
  • Coverage of typical hardware and software required
  • Basics of signal processing for histogram spectra
  • Introduction to the use of software utilities for library, calibration and analysis parameter setup.
  • Simple overview of analysis review
This course combines the theory of gamma spectroscopy measurements with the direct utilization of the GammaVision software application. It is intended for the beginner level GammaVision user or as a refresher course. The training covers the structure of a typical hardware/software configuration and then moves into the application basics and features, including: signal processing basics, nuclide libraries, calibrations and verifications, analysis results interpretation, and a basic review of radioanalytical anomalies and example spectra with associated parameters. The course is instructor-led with sufficient time for lab exercises with actual instrumentation used in a typical counting lab.

GammaVision Advanced builds on the GammaVision Core topics.

A quick review of the base topics is offered before expanding on best practices in the application of:

  • Hardware Setup and Software Control of Hardware
  • Library Building and editing to include Summation and Escape peaks
  • Expanded Calibration application (TCC calibrations, manual calibrations)
  • GammaVision spectral correction methods
  • Extended use of analysis parameters for improved interpretation
These topics will be covered while classroom exercises illuminate the practical effects.

This course is intended for the persons responsible to be the experts in GammaVision use. It builds on the basic GammaVision topics by expanding into detail for each of the processes presented: hardware and GammaVision software setup, spectral features, a deeper analysis of energy and efficiency calibrations, nuclide library reviews and best practices, spectral correction tools, varying analytical processing methods, counting statistics, uncertainty calculations and interpretation. Advanced spectrum review and troubleshooting are also presented with sufficient time for lab exercises.

GammaVision Combined Core/Advanced Software Training - Wokingham UK, 16th to 19th November 2020

This GammaVision software training course provides an introduction to gamma-ray spectroscopy for those new to the subject, as well potential improvements to existing working practices to those already engaged in the field. It is primarily intended for analysts, technicians, and anyone else undertaking gamma-ray spectroscopy, although quality assurance officers and data reviewers who need an understanding of gamma-ray spectroscopic measurements using GammaVision will also benefit.

Taking place over 3.5 days, the course is a mixture of lectures and hands-on laboratory-type exercises using representative spectra. The course begins with basic physics for gamma spectroscopy, HPGe detectors and signal processing, followed by in depth instructions of all aspects of the GammaVision software including interface, features, comprehensive gamma spectrum analysis methods, interactive analysis, spectral correction tools, operation automation, QA, reporting and interpretation.
