Micro-Detective Training Course

Micro-Detective Ultra Light Portable Hand Held Radioisotope Identifier

Hand-held Radioisotope Identification Devices (RIIDs) are designed to identify the isotopic composition of radioactive sources, typically based on low-resolution gamma spectroscopy. RIIDS are a lightweight means to determine whether an unknown object, suspicious package, or hidden material is radioactive. Getting accurate results is imperative and speed and accuracy are imperative. Knowing the benefits and limitations of the different RIIDS is important.

These courses provide the operator with the knowledge and skills necessary to locate the source, detect radiation and associated levels, and identify the radioactive isotopes to determine the threat status presented. Students learn how to adjust settings on the instruments and outcomes of those adjustments, alarm settings and how to resolve alarms, and support radiological assessments with obtained results.
