ORTEC introduces the next generation in integrated alpha spectrometers, the Octęte Plus. Octęte Plus retains the convenient 8-channel alpha spectrometer, and adds several features to expand its utility. Octęte Plus now includes the capability to accept input signals from an additional 8 external spectrometers, offering the user the option to upgrade to the industry’s latest alpha spectrometers and alpha spectroscopy software without having to scrap existing spectrometers. Any spectrometer with an accessible signal output can be integrated into the Octęte Plus system. In conjunction with this industry-exclusive feature, Octęte Plus offers coincidence gating for external inputs, allowing alpha-alpha or alpha-beta coincidence counting without the need for additional multichannel analyzers. Continuing ORTEC’s unique, truly simple networking theme, the Octęte Plus now offers completely transparent networking through a built-in Ethernet computer and ORTEC’s Connections software. Truly plug-and-play networking allows expansion on alpha spectrometer networks simply by adding additional Octęte Plus. For those users operating alpha spectrometers at limited vacuums for recoil protection, Octęte Plus now offers vacuum monitoring from 10 mTorr to 30 Torr. The Octęte Plus vacuum interlock for bias application is also adjusted to allow automatic bias application at elevated chamber pressure levels.
Vacuum Chambers Each Octęte Plus incorporates eight high-integrity modular vacuum chambers for reliable, reproducible vacuum control. These individually-cast brass chambers are nickel plated for corrosion protection and ease of decontamination, and can be isolated and removed without affecting the operation of other chambers if necessary. The chambers are sealed with a high-performance o-ring secured in a cleanly-machined recess in the face of each chamber. The manually-controlled vent/hold/pump valve provides the most maintenance-free vacuum control in the industry, while the user-adjustable bias interlock provides automatic bias application when the chamber is ready for sample counting. Each chamber has an independent vacuum gauge, capable of providing vacuum reporting from 10 mTorr through 30 Torr. All vacuum display and bias control settings are available through AlphaVision-32’s Octęte Settings control, or through controls in Maestro®-32 MCA emulation software. Electronics Each sample chamber is served by its own bias supply, preamplifier, amplifier, and pulser. The bias voltage and amplifier gain are individually adjustable from the front panel of the Octęte Plus. Each internal detector is also served by an adjustable pulse generator to allow insertion of a test signal through the entire detection system with a range of 4 to 10 MeV. Signals from each detector system’s amplifier, as well as signals from up to eight external spectrometers, are routed to a 64k-channel, nonvolatile memory multichannel analyzer. Each detection system has individual digital offset and conversion gain settings for maximum flexibility. Ordering Information
