ORTEC has a wide range of products - nuclear instrumentation, spectroscopy acquisition-and-analysis software, and non-nuclear research instrumentation, with applications in a multitude of fields. Often we receive requests for a complete solution to a measurement problem. The solution usually involves the addition of special hardware and software that provides the "glue" necessary for a turn-key system.

Our Integrated Systems Group can provide complete solutions for:

Work with our Integrated Systems Group or our Nuclear Power Plant Support Team to get the solution you need.

From Design to Delivery . . .

At ORTEC we work with you. If one of our standard solutions is not the answer, we have the expertise, equipment, and commitment to fully satisfy the measurement requirement.

When a customer informs us of a special application requirement, we immediately involve our talented R&D staff. Each inquiry is handled as a formal project by our Integrated Systems Group. When the inquiry becomes a quotation and then an order, the same technical people provide total continuity. The customer becomes a consultant to the design team.

Some Brief System Descriptions

These are examples of systems ORTEC has produced: OS1700 Tritium Bubbler

Air Monitoring
Systems delivered include alpha/beta monitors, noble gas monitors, iodine monitors, tritium monitors and collectors, and nuclide-specific (gamma spectroscopy) systems.

Water Monitoring
We can provide gross-activity monitors and nuclide-specific monitors for effluent and environmental monitoring, as well as nuclide-specific systems containing NaI(Tl) or HPGe detectors.

Custom Alpha Spectrometry
Such systems, often containing scores of alpha spectroscopy channels, are prepared using exquisite vacuum technique and careful helium leak-checking to ensure no leaks, virtual or actual. All controls are conveniently positioned.

  Special Nuclear Systems
Special Nuclear Systems
Many systems require application of nuclear techniques to non-nuclear problems. Example: a chemical weapons assay system, based on prompt-gamma Neutron Activation Analysis, originally produced for the U.S. Army, is now used in support of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Custom Electronics Packages
Thirty-five years of electronics expertise brings frequent requests for special electronics modules and systems. Our Integrated Systems Group has delivered racks of computer-controlled NIM and electronics packages for medical research. On-Line Processing

On-Line Processing
We are specialists in spectroscopy for on-line monitoring, such as protecting the integrity of fuel in nuclear power plants. The more nuclide specificity required, the more we are needed. On-line systems are built in compliance with nuclear regulations; furthermore, they can be modified to comply with additional customer specifications.

Custom-User Interfaces
Sometimes customers request custom interfaces to our standard software packages. Our CONNECTIONS-based standard software packages and standard programmer's toolkits make such customization easy.

Laboratory Automation
Because of our heavy involvement with radiological counting laboratories it isn't surprising that customers often request custom configurations and process automation. Our Integrated Systems Group is ready. Each such request is handled the same as a large stack monitor or failed-fuel system would be: design, integration, test, documentation, and delivery.

Those are examples of what we have delivered. When it comes to new systems though, we are eager and able to take on new technical challenges. If we can't provide the right solution, we will say so.

What Can the Customer Expect from Us?

1 The Initial Contact
Once we determine a special Integrated System is required, we involve our technical experts immediately. The second call to the customer will be from an applications or systems design expert.

2 The Consultative Process
Because the system belongs to the customer, we keep in continuous contact. System definition is iterative, particularly for complex systems. Often, we send one of our technical staff to the customer's site for facility inspection and discussions.

3 The Proposal
When we and the customer have defined the system and options, a complete technical proposal, with pricing, is provided. The proposal includes a system description, schematics, and a project milestone chart. Thereafter, the customer is welcomed to the factory for progress reports, testing, inspection, or a chat.

4 Design Review
After order receipt the system design is discussed with the customer to ensure everyone is on the same wavelength. The QA plan is reviewed at the same time.

5 Manufacturing
As building occurs, customer visits are encouraged to review progress. Occasionally, during construction, "a better way" comes to mind and changes are considered.

6 Testing
In addition to component testing, there is also a Shop Test and a Factory Acceptance Test. We generally solicit the customer's comments prior to these tests. Again, we encourage customer participation during all testing phases. Satisfactory completion of the Factory Acceptance Test means the system is ready to ship.

7 On-Site Installation and Testing
Our technicians assist with installation and put the system through its paces on site. We typically perform a calibration using the customer's reference sources. The on-site procedure is approved by the customer prior to the test.

8 Documentation
Documentation delivered with your system includes suggested spare parts, electrical diagrams, schematics, trouble-shooting guidelines, preventive maintenance guidelines, and step-by-step operating instructions.

9 System Support
All of our products, whether components, instruments, or systems, include a one-year warranty. Longer warranties are often included as part of systems contracts; a wide range of support-contract choices is available. Telephone support is always free.
