ORTEC® DETECTIVE RECEIVES
SAFETY ACT DESIGNATION
FOR ITS HIGH-RESOLUTION RADIATION DETECTION TECHNOLOGY
Oak Ridge, TN,
October 9, 2006 -- The ORTEC Products Group of AMETEK has earned Designation
as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology under the Support Anti-terrorism by
Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 ("Safety Act") for its
high-resolution ORTEC® Detective handheld radiation detectors.
"We are pleased that the ORTEC DETECTIVE family of portable isotope
identifiers detectors has met the stringent requirements needed to receive
the Safety Act designation. We believe that these high-resolution
instruments represent the best available technology for accurately and
reliably identifying the presence of nuclear material and quickly
determining whether or not it poses a threat," comments Dan Upp, Vice
President of ORTEC.
"The DETECTIVE, first introduced in 2003, represents the state of the art in
radiation detection technology. It has reduced existing bulky laboratory
equipment into an expert system: a self-contained, lightweight,
battery-powered portable device that is able to positively identify nuclear
materials without expert intervention. It employs a high-purity germanium
(HPGe) gamma-ray detector. HPGe represents the Gold Standard in radioisotope
identification," he added.
Since 2003, hundreds of DETECTIVEs, including the latest versions—the
DETECTIVE 100 and DETECTIVE EX-100, have been field deployed and proven by
the U.S. Departments of Energy, Defense and Homeland Security and various
law enforcement and public safety agencies and their counterparts around the
world.
AMETEK’s ORTEC Products Group has more than 40 years of experience in the
design and manufacture of highly sensitive radiation detectors and is one of
only two manufacturers worldwide with the ability to produce both
high-purity Germanium and high-resolution radiation detectors from it. |
