ORTEC RELEASES ISOTOPIC-32 V4.0
Advanced Software for Gamma-Ray Assay

OAK RIDGE, TN, June 1, 2007–AMETEK’s ORTEC® Products Group, a recognized leader in radiation detection technology, has released ISOTOPIC-32 Version 4.0.  This advanced software provides quantitative assay of gamma-emitting waste samples from spectra acquired through the use of high-resolution spectrometer systems based on high-purity Germanium (HPGe). The software, which is compatible with all ORTEC HPGe-based spectrometers or as part of an integrated ORTEC ISO-Cart system, is ideally suited for the new ORTEC trans-SPEC-100 portable HPGe spectrometer that requires no liquid nitrogen refrigerant.

ISOTOPIC software was developed to solve a class of assay problems where there is no possibility of making a representative standard for calibration.  It includes standard geometry templates from which a specific measurement configuration can be developed.  All types of gamma-emitting waste analysis, both fissile and non-fissile, fall within its scope. As part of latest software update, algorithms are refined, user interaction simplified and reporting capabilities greatly improved. In addition, many convenience features have been added.

Isotopic V4 uses a new and more accurate calibration algorithm that includes specific detector characteristic information,” explains Dr. Richard Hagenauer, one of its developers. “By using the crystal dimensions, dead layer thickness, and other detector parameters the angular efficiency of the HPGe detector is computed much more accurately. This approach improves analysis of items measured close to the detector or large items whose gamma emissions would strike the sides of the detector as well the normal face.”
