News Release Release of New Instrument for Homeland Security Advanced Measurement Technology Oak Ridge, TN, a division of AMETEK (Paoli PA) will celebrate the release of their new instrument for Homeland Security, the ORTEC "Detective" on Monday, March 22, 2004. The Detective is the first portable nuclide identifier using on a high-purity germanium detector and is based on licensed technology from the University of California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The Detective will provide first responders (such as HAZMAT teams, police, and fire protection personnel) and government authorities (such as customs inspectors) with the ability to quickly screen objects for potentially dangerous nuclear materials and determine their potential threat. "Recent events here and abroad have reinforced the importance of vigilance in our efforts to make our citizens feel safe in our homeland. In support of these efforts, our new product , the Detective, will play an essential role in combating the potential threat of radioactive materials entering our country," said Jon Kidder, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology. The company celebration event will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 PM on Monday March 22, 2004 at the Oak Ridge facility. Congressman Zack Wamp will attend along with other local invited dignitaries.
