News Release Digital Failed Fuel Spectrometer (DFFS) ORTEC has supplied instrumentation for on-line gamma-ray spectrometer systems to nuclear power plants around the world. Many of these spectrometers detect the onset of fuel element failure through analysis of the gamma spectrum emitted by the plant's coolant. ORTEC now offers a complete failed fuel spectrometer that is ultra stable and easily optimized for any count rate environment the Digital Failed Fuel Spectrometer. At the heart of the Digital Failed Fuel Spectrometer is the DSPEC (pronounced D-SPEC) a new gamma-ray spectrometer which uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. These DSP techniques allow a reduction in the amount of electronics in the package compared to a conventional spectrometer. Fewer electronic components result in greater stability because of the reduction in electronics-noise sources. A major problem in any on-line monitoring situation is instrument stability the DSP provides stability that is unmatched in the industry. The Digital Failed Fuel Spectrometer is a complete integrated package with a variety of software and networking options, a built-in automatically actuated check source, and is delivered with full technical documentation and a detailed operation manual. |
