News Release CONNECTIONS Adds EtherNIMS: MCAs for Networked Nuclear Spectroscopy Three EtherNIMs, new MCA hardware, join ORTEC's millennium-ready CONNECTIONS family. Designed for applications as diverse as environmental and waste assay measurements, stack monitors, nuclear process control measurements, and nuclear safeguards -- EtherNIMs provide in NIM format, direct Ethernet connection of spectroscopy amplifier chains supporting detectors as different as NaI(Tl), HPGe, ion-implanted Si, or CZT. An EtherNIM is a complete Multichannel buffer with computer-controlled ADC, gate, and presets, as well as nonvolatile data memory. EtherNIMs operate with the latest ORTEC CONNECTIONS-32 millennium-ready software application packages under Windows®; 95 or NT. Software toolkits assist the "do-it-yourself" applications developer. The Model 920E EtherNIM is optimized for silicon charged-particle or NaI detectors in low-count-rate situations, such as environmental-laboratory sample screening by alpha or gamma spectroscopy. With 16 inputs and independent start/stop/preset control/conversion gain/offset, it connects to the internal ADC via a high-speed multiplexer/router. The Model 919E, intended for low- to moderate-count rates with NaI and/or Ge detectors for smaller counting laboratories which need economical support for mixed detector types, provides 4 inputs and independent start/stop/preset control/conversion gain. Also included are highly accurate live-time control and pilup reject (PUR) circuitry. Inputs connect to an internal ADC via a high-speed multiplexer/router.The single-input, ultra-high-rate Model 921E accepts input count rates >1 million per second and delivers throughput as great as 100,000 counts/sec. It is ideal for Ge detectors in ultra-high-rate situations such as in-stack monitors, process monitors, safeguards, and post-accident systems. |
