News Release ORTEC Introduces the Next Generation in Digital Signal Processing for HPGe and NaI(Tl) Spectroscopy. . . Introducing DSPEC jr 2.0 ORTEC is pleased to announce the release of a new instrument in the popular DSPEC line of digital signal processing spectrometers for germanium and sodium iodide spectroscopy. The new DSPEC jr 2.0 carries forward all of the features and benefits of the economical DSPEC jr, while adding specific features that add value to this product. The new features include the addition of ORTEC’s unique Zero Dead Time (ZIT™) correction for loss free counting in addition to the standard Gedcke-Hale Live Time Correction method, and the incorporation of a new digital filter, termed the "Low-Frequency Rejector" (LFR)1, which boasts the ability to remove microphonic and low-frequency periodic noise (if present) from germanium detector output signals, producing significant improvement in spectral resolution. The LFR is specifically designed for mechanically-cooled systems, which are known to often contribute microphonic noise to the spectrum (thereby degrading spectral resolution), but is capable also of removing any periodic noise signal resulting from surrounding electronics and equipment or ground loops. In addition, the DSPEC jr 2.0 incorporates USB 2.0 which boasts a 40-fold increase in data transfer rates over previous versions of the USB communications protocol. The DSPEC jr 2.0 includes the most popular features of the DSPEC line, including rock solid peak position/resolution stability for real-time monitoring, built in Insight™ Virtual Oscilloscope, patented Automatic Pole Zero2 and Baseline Restorer3 circuits. The new DSPEC jr 2.0 offers the same powerful set of peak shape parameter settings for better matching of the electronics and detector for specific applications that are also available in the DSPEC-PLUS. 1.
