Alpha Spectrometry Training Course Awarded 32 CECs
by the American Academy of Health Physics

ORTEC is pleased to announce the award of 32 Continuing Education Credits by the American Academy of Health Physics for successful completion of it's alpha spectrometry training course, entitled "Modern Methods in Alpha Spectrometry." The credits can be used by CHP's in thier recertification program (reference AAHP course number 2003-00-042). The intensive weeklong course focuses on the fundamentals of radiochemistry for alpha spectrometry, including sample preparation tehniques, radiochemical separation methods by ion-exchange and extraction chromatography, source preparation, detectors and electronics, spectral analysis and reporting of analysis results and uncertainties. Each class is held at one of three training alliance facilities including Clemson University (CU, Department of Environmental Engineering, Anderson, SC, USA), The National Physical Laboratory (NPL, Teddington, Middlesex, United Kingdom), and Washington State University (WSU, US Transuranium Registries, Pullman, WA, USA). Classes have also been conducted at the West Valley Demonstration Project site for the US Department of Energy. Instructors are Professor William Burnett Ph.D. (Florida State University, Department of Oceanography), and Michael Schultz Ph.D. (Product Manager, ORTEC). Upcoming scheduled offerings include NPL, February 23-27, 2004; CU August 16-20, 2004. Tentative dates are set for June 2-6, 2004 at NPL as well. The course tuition is $2350 per person.
