Detective and Detective-EX/DX Upgrades
for Standard and -100 Versions

There are many hundreds of Detective Family instruments in the field today, many in 24/7 operation. During the 4 years the Detective has been in production, a number of enhancements and improvements have been added. Many customers may not be aware these improvements can be added to their existing Detectives at a fraction of the cost of a new instrument. Because the HPGe Detector/Cooler part of the Detective has proven very reliable, upgrading is a wise and cost-effective choice in many cases. Below we summarize some of the upgrade options.

IMPORTANT: Contact your Sales Engineer or Customer Service for a quotation for any of the below upgrades. Upgrades can be offered in various combinations. Please make sure to have details of your Detective instrument, including serial number.

DETECTIVE to DETECTIVE-DX Upgrade
(includes -100 versions)

Includes PDA controller with touch sensitive screen, latest software and firmware, including new Nuclide List (Version 2.30, 08/05/08) and SNM Search mode. Controller features removable SD data storage and 802.11 wireless communications.

(includes -100 versions)

Includes PDA controller with touch sensitive screen, latest software and firmware, including new Nuclide List (Version 2.30, 08/05/08), SNM Search mode and GPS. Controller features removable SD data storage and 802.11 wireless communications.

DETECTIVE to DETECTIVE-EX Upgrade

OTTER Upgrade

The OTTER Upgrade is available for all DETECTIVE-EX and -DX models. This upgrade provides a more secure, “water resistant” enclosure for the PDA. All seams have a gasket material and the PDA is enclosed in an “Otter ™” case. The upgrade also includes the latest software and firmware, including new Nuclide List (Version 2.30, 08/05/08) and SNM Search mode. Controller features removable SD data storage and 802.11 wireless communications.

Note: the resultant upgrade is considered splash resistant, but is not water proof.

GPS Upgrade

The GPS upgrade is available for all DETECTIVE-EX and -DX models. The PDA is upgraded to a model having the GPS functionality. Any necessary mounting hardware is also upgraded. The upgrade also includes the latest software and firmware, including new Nuclide List (Version 2.30, 08/05/08) and SNM Search mode. Controller features removable SD data storage and 802.11 wireless communications.

SNM Software Upgrade

SNM Software/Firmware upgrade for all DETECTIVE-EX and -DX models. The SNM software provides a nuclide-specific confidence meter search mode and new Nuclide List (Version 2.30, 08/05/08).

8MeV Upgrade

8MeV upgrade is offered for all DETECTIVE-EX and -DX models. This upgrade increases the energy range from 0–3 MeV to 0–8 MeV (16k channels).
