ORTEC offers standard lead shields for HPGe and NaI detectors. All ORTEC lead shields include copper/tin graded liner to reduce fluorescence and scattered x-rays from the thicker lead shield. All lead is from the Doe Run mine, resulting in low cosmogenic (inherent) background in the shield.

• HPLBS1 top loading, 4" lead shield. The industry standard.
• HPLBS1F front loading version of the HPLBS1. This design is easier on the technicians; especially for loading heavy soil or water samples in large volume Marinelli beakers.
• HPLBSF2 is a front loading shield designed specifically for the ORTEC –HJ cryostats. This shield is often chosen in conjunction with a low-background detector cryostat in an –HJ cryostat. The design gives the lowest background performance of any of the detector/shield/cryostat combinations available.

• G-5 top loading 3 inch lead shield for NaI detectors includes a long enough base to accommodate an ORTEC 296 tube base connected to a 3 x 3 NaI (Model 905-4) detector.
