Alpha Spectroscopy
Hardware ORTEC offers a complete selection of hardware for Alpha Spectroscopy
counting systems including:
Soloist
The Soloist is a complete spectrometer for NIM-based counting
of alpha-emitting samples. The Soloist includes bias, preamplifier, amplifier, vacuum
chamber, and a test pulser and can be ordered with a variety of ULTRA silicon detectors.
The only items needed to make the Soloist a complete operational unit are a NIM bin and
power supply (such as the 4001/4002 or MiniBIN 4006), a pumping system (such as the
ALPHA-PPS), and an MCA (such as the TRUMP-PCI-2K or 920E).
Up to 6 Soloist
units can be installed in a full-sized NIM bin (3 in an ORTEC 4006 MiniBIN). Choices of
detectors include the low-background ULTRA-AS ion implanted detectors up to 1200 mm2.
The front panel selector sets the energy range of interest for the amplifier output. The
amplifier output is connected to the input of an MCA like the TRUMP-PCI-2K for single
counting systems; or to the input a multi-input MCA such as the 920E (16 channels) or the
rear panel of an OCTETE-PLUS (8 additional channels).
576A
(128KB PDF)
The 576A is a complete Dual-chamber spectrometer for
NIM-based counting of alpha-emitting samples. The 576A includes bias, preamplifier,
amplifier, and a test pulser for two separate vacuum chambers. The 576A can be ordered
with a variety of Ruggedized and ULTRA silicon detectors. The only items needed to make
the 576A a complete operational unit are a NIM bin and power supply (such as the 4001/4002
or MiniBIN 4006), a pumping system (such as the ALPHA-PPS), and an MCA (such as the 920E).
Up
to 6 complete 576A units can be installed in a full-sized NIM bin (3 in an ORTEC 4006
MiniBIN) giving 12 spectrometer channels (6 in a MiniBIN). Choices of detectors include
the R-series surface barrier and low-background ULTRA-AS ion implanted detectors up to 600
mm2. The front panel selector sets the energy range of interest for the
amplifier output from each channel. The amplifier output is connected to the input of an
MCA like the TRUMP-PCI-2K for single counting systems; or to the input a multi-input MCA
such as the 920E (16 channels) or the rear panel of an OCTETE-PLUS (8 additional
channels).
OCTETE-PLUS
(471KB PDF)
The OCTETE-PLUS was designed specifically to meet
the needs of the high production alpha spectrometer laboratory. Each
OCTETE-PLUS includes 8 individually controlled vacuum chambers which
have bias, preamplifier, amplifier, test pulser, and MCA. All that is
need to complete the system is a vacuum pump (such as the ALPHA-PPS) and
a computer with the appropriate software. All OCTETE-PLUS’s come with MAESTRO-32 software and are optionally available with the fully quantitative
AlphaVision-32 package. In addition to its 8 internally controlled
channels, the OCTETE-PLUS includes 8 additional inputs to its MCA. These inputs are
included to give laboratories further expansion capabilities simply by adding other
spectrometers (Soloist, 576A, or competitors chambers) to the OCTETE-PLUS.
808 Vacuum Chamber
The 808 vacuum chamber is a complete spectrometer for
NIM-based counting of large area alpha-emitting samples. The 808 chamber
accommodates
samples up to 4 inches in diameter. Detector options include any ORTEC surface barrier or
ion implanted (ULTRA-series) silicon detector up to 2000 mm2. The 808 chamber
needs preamplifier, bias, amplifier and MCA in order to be a complete functioning system.
An ALPHA-PPS pumping system can also be used to provide the vacuum in the chamber.
Custom Alpha Spectrometer Workstations
ORTEC designs, tests, and installs complete alpha
spectrometer workstations based on our complete line of standard
components. Systems delivered have been tested in the Oak Ridge, TN
facility for both system functionality and vacuum
integrity. Complete systems including integrated computers, sample preparation trays, rack
mounted pumps, and vacuum manifolds are all available.

ALPHA-PPS (-115, or 230)
The ALPHA
Portable Pumping station can be used with any
ORTEC alpha spectrometer system (576A, Soloist, OCTETE, OCTETE-PC, OCTETE-PLUS, Alpha
King, or 808 chamber). The unit must be ordered as either
115 for 115 V AC operation or 230 for 220-240 V AC operation. |
